Monday Morning Quarterback for October 7th

Here is the latest edition of Monday Morning Quarterback.

Sometimes a person can get writer’s block.  I am sure that could think of many things to write about.  A lot is going on this week in sports.

For example, the MLB Playoffs began this week.  I am, of course, left disappointed once again with my Cincinnati Reds.  They lost to Pittsburgh in the NL Wild Card this past Tuesday night.

Then later in the week, the Reds decide to fire Manager Dusty Baker after 6 years at the helm.  Dusty guided the Reds to three 90 win seasons and three playoff appearances, as well as two NL Central Titles.

That is great results, but the problem was not making it past the first round of the playoffs.  They were swept by the Phillies in 2010 (including a no hitter in game one).  Last year, they took the first two games against the Giants before failing to win one of the last three games of the series at home that would have sent them to the NL Championship Series.

The Reds have the talent, but they fall flat at the wrong times.  I liked Dusty, but a change needed to be made.  Here is hoping that the next Reds Manager can get the team over the hump of the first round of the playoffs.  The Reds should be back of the thick of it again in 2014.

Bengals

Speaking of Cincinnati,” WHO DEY!!  WHO DEY!!  Who Dey think gonna beat them Bengals?”  Chicago and Cleveland did!!  With the Bengals, you don’t know who you’re going to get.  The Bengals that lost to Chicago and Cleveland, or the Bengals that have score big wins over Green Bay and New England?  The Defense has played great, but the Offense, and more importantly Andy Dalton, need to pick things up.

This looks like a week to week thing with Cincinnati, so what will next week have in store when the Bengals travel to Buffalo?  Stay tuned.

I still have some writer’s block, so I though I would share some football blooper videos that I found on YouTube!!     Video 1    Video 2    Video 3

That is it for now.

Enjoy your week.  I know I will.  I have visions of Oklahoma blowing out Texas this Saturday in the Red River Rivalry!!!

A Special Steve Black Show Congratulations goes out to the State Champions who represented their schools in our Tri-County area for the 2012-2013 School Year.

North Laurel Cheer

In February, the Cheerleading Squad from North Laurel High School won the first KHSAA State Competitive Cheerleading Championship in the All-Girl Medium Division of Class 2A over teams like Bullitt East, Dixie Heights and Bowling Green.  North finished with a score of 280.4.  This capped off a big month for the team as they won took first place honors at the UCA National Competition in Orlando, Florida, beating out 38 other teams.  Check out The team’s state winning preference courtesy of Sierra Taylor’s video from YouTube.

Knox Central’s Cassidy “Cassi” Shippy was victorious in the 100 meter dash in Class 2A at the 2013 Kentucky State Track and Field Championships in Louisville, on Friday (5-17-13).  Cassi finished with a time of 12.58 beating the best in the state including last year’s winner Alisa Adair of Western Hills, who placed 4th in this year’s event.  Both Cassi and Alisha will run Track at the University of Kentucky next year.

There are still a few sports left to complete their seasons, so it is possible we could see more teams and/or individuals on this list.

Once again, Congrats to Cassi and the North Laurel Cheerleading Squad on their achievements this year!!!
