Monday Morning Quarterback for August 12th 2013

This week’s version of Monday Morning Quarterback is devoted to someone that became a part of my online show back in January of this year, and has since become a fixture as one of the Co-Hosts of the Show, Mr. Jon North.  Jon brings a wealth of knowledge when it comes to high school and college athletics, as well as professional wrestling.

Jon grew up in Leslie County Kentucky and played basketball at Red Bird High School.  After graduation, Jon attended Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky, majoring in Mass Communications.  During his time at Union, Jon became involved with Union’s Sports Broadcasting Department, many times providing color commentary with the Director of Broadcasting Matt Mahony on football and basketball broadcasts.  During his time at Union, Jon also had the chance to work in local radio, calling high school athletics.

After graduating from Union this year with his Mass Communications degree, Jon had visions of one day working for WYMT Television out of Hazard, Kentucky, but something got in the way of those plans.

In early August Jon, who had just started working for Union in the Admissions Department, was given a great opportunity in broadcasting.  Matt Mahony had just accepted a broadcasting position with Georgia Gwinnett College just outside of Atlanta, and as of last week, Jon accepted the position to become the brand new “Voice of the Bulldogs” at Union College.  As for now, those dreams of WYMT will have to be placed on hold.

I got to know Jon from my PA duties at Union College and we have become friends.  He has added so much to the show since coming on board in January.  I just hope that with everything on his broadcasting plate, that he still has time for my show (haha).  Jon is living his dream and we at the Steve Black Show could not be more proud of him and wish him the best of luck with the Bulldogs!!!

Jon also lived out another dream this past Saturday night, as he provided commentary for Pro Wrestling Freedom’s Retribution wrestling show broadcast in London, Kentucky.  Needless to say that 2013 has been the year of NORTH.  Oh I forgot. Jon got engaged this Summer to fellow Red Bird and Union Alum Samantha Caldwell.

What does the rest of 2013 have to offer for Jon North.  We will see…….

This is it for this week’s Monday Morning Quarterback.  Remember that the Steve
Black Show is back and better than ever beginning August 22nd at 7pm live on

Have a great week!
